I'll be there.

And so will you!

I'm going to wear a lot of layers to control the overswing! ;)

indeed

by the way we expect a blow by blow account of the match, and I presume the first one is played off scratch.

My Odds:
3/1 on for foxholer
2/1 against for Mikey :D

Anyway cutting to the chase, what were the finals scores then seeing as they have not been covered in the other threads?

Cheers

Mike won the first with an excellent par putt from more than 15 feet, with the putter I'd just sold him:rolleyesw:, while I missed from less than 15 inches! :madw:

Second was halved with Mike failing to take advantage of a (nearly forgiveable) 3 putt.

Unfortunately, Mike got some dodgy lies and some bad decisions after this and I got the pace of the greens - practice green was closed (supposedly after lots of overnight rain, though I did have some 'conspiracy theory' thoughts).

Mike probably let some of the bad shots get to him - and I certainly played better on the back 9 (didn't hit a fairway on the front) - and he faded somewhat. No real failing there; I've certainly done that myself and there's nothing like an experience to improve your play.

So result was 1-0 to the Oldies.

A most pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Company was excellent and if Mike was 'being a pratt' I didn't see any evidence. Whitey had a sneaky good round and Oli played well though did seem to be in a lot of ditches!:( Mike drives long and straight and putts well, but the stuff in between needs work. My 'Provisional' on 8 with the FT5/Tangy Altus confirmed I don't like the feel of Altus shafts.

Course still emerging from Winter but greens surprisingly quick. Some really testing holes with trees, hedges, hazzards in perfect places and a little breeze added 'interest'. Sureshot battery ran out of juice on 8, so that added to the challenge (and my shot time).

Bit knackered after the drives and carrying, so missed most of the 'fun' in 'the other' thread - thank heaven. Would be happy to 'check progress' in a re-match later in the year though.

thought about my round last night..and I thought that i just played a conservative round...I didnt try anything spectacular. I just played a solid 5 over round. As always there is mistakes in there which can be eradicated.

Id agree with Ross - Oli and Mike need to get out and play some comps...they need to learn how to score, Mike is trying to play "TV" golf...trying to play the spectacular at the pin instead of at our level concentrate on hitting the green.

course is actually not a bad track. as ross said greens were good for the time of year.

So, did you beat Oli and it is therefore now 2-0!;)

That wasn't an 'arranged' match - but 5 over = 37 pts off 6 was certainly best round of the day.

Yes Whitey beat me - but we were all playing off scratch so that was to be expected.

Guys - Great tips and I agree totally with everything you say.

I hate ditches!
