What are the best ones? Both fun and highly paid.

What sort of qualifications would you need to work for a golf company and be more than the coffee guy? Taylormade, ping etc.

Do PGA pro's get paid a lot?

What is the average tour player earning?

It's a lot of questions and if anyone has any feel free to post and we can help each other out.Thanks.

how about driving the tractor collecting balls out on the range? The adrenalin rush must be quite intense, plus it's quite popular as everyone likes a moving target every now and then, to break the monotony of practice sessions

Not sure about pay though

Towards the end of 2006 when I was really dejected with my then job, I started to seriously look for a job related to golf. There was no way I could take a pay cut so it had to be something decent.

After speaking to afew people, including the guy who works for IMG and runs the Abu Dhabi Championship it became clear that if successful I would have been quite close to golf but probably getting fewer chances to actually play! That put the kibosh on that immediately.

I say this because I don't think there is a job in golf you would take if it meant you get to play less golf, if you know what I mean.

Hey marksman007,

That's pretty cool that you'd like to follow a career in the golf industry, i think it's quite common for juniors around our age to think about that path. It is definitely something worth looking into and would be useful for you to ask your golf pro for some more information.

I think that to become a PGA teaching pro you have to take a course and at the time your handicap has to be below 4. That's maybe be completely wrong, probably best to ask Ben, he'd know more then me about it!:)

You could also try and compete on mini tours here in the UK. I have no idea what ones you have in Scotland but in my area there is a tour called Jamega. It's open to everyone and the prize money is pretty good. However, entry fees are pretty high and the standard of play is pretty good too. From there you can progress onto Q school if you like and try and gain your tour card. However, once again that is no easy task and although you hear a lot of success stories you will need to take into account all the people who go home with nothing to. It's a dog eat dog world really.

What i would recommend is when you're of legal age to work, try and get yourself a job in a golf shop or on the driving range. From there you can learn a lot and will find out about more careers in the industry for example you get to meet Reps from the OEM's on a fairly regular basis. Also you will gain a good contacts list too, who will be able to help you out.

Best of luck
Mike.

True.

But are you likely to be in it from the start?

I don't have a clue about journalism but i would think that writing for a golf magazine would be pretty hard to get a shot at. Not really tonnes around and they'd probably look for experience first?

So maybe you might end up working in the golf industry which would be cool.:D

Well yeah. I'd have to do a couple of years at least for a local paper and THEN specialise but that t'was the plan anyway!

Become a greenkeeper its the best job possible related to golf !!!

I am and i love it yeh the mornings are cold this time of year but it sure as hell beats a sweaty office infront of a pc screen.

And you can play as much golf as you like when you like most the time.

You also learn about golf management and what makes golf courses what they are :-)

If you don't mind me asking, what's the pay like?

Not a bad way to start out in the golf industry IMO.:)

The pay is crap tbh you get better wages at private clubs, but its the belfry and free golf weneva on the derby and pga, only allowed once a month on the brabazon :(.

Should also get my BIGGA card soon which entitles free golf any where if possible :-)
