Ok guys, new year, new start. Who's with me?
I'll start the ball rolling.
2007 starting weight 24st 4lbs.
2007 finishing weight 20st 0lbs.
2007 lowest weight 18st 11lbs.
Ok, so I lost 5st 7lbs, but when the diet went on the slide in October, and continued, I decided to just enjoy Christmas, and was slightly relieved to see I'd "only" put on slightly more than a stone. I honestly thought I'd put on more. I'd actually FELT that I'd put on more. I had a bit of a rough period towards the end of the year, but you gotta take the rough with the smooth sometimes, and get back on that horse again, and so now my quest continues into 2008.
2008 starting weight 20st 0lbs.
Ultimate target 14st 4lbs, which would be a total weight loss of 10st. Any more than that is a bonus.
Will be more than happy to get to maybe 16st this year though.
I know last year, the Fat Club thread gave me a real push, knowing that I was posting my progress, and to be honest I done very little gym work, whereas this year I've enlisted the help of my mates girlfriend as fitness trainer, and I'm going to see her tomorrow to draw up a plan for the year, mixing cardio and weight work, as well as getting a stability ball, medicine ball and a set of dumbbells, to get a program together in the house.
The plan will be.
Monday, 9 holes and practice, small workout in the house.
Tuesday, gym, then out to play, maybe 9 holes, maybe more, dependant on time.
Wednesday, 9 or 18 holes, putting practice, small workout in the house.
Thursday, 18 hole sweep which counts towards handicap adjustments, small workout in house.
Friday, practice and 9 holes, maybe more in the morning, gym in the afternoon.
Saturday, 18 hole medal/sweep.
Sunday, putting and chipping practice.
We'll see how things go over the course of the year.

In for a penny in for (several!) pounds.
Just tipped the scales yesterday at a little north of 13st, which is not good for a man of my stature (5"4'). I've been doing the Slimming World diet on and off for about three years, the last two not being that strict with myself. So I've started with a particularly strict week this week, and also have one of these fitness DVD's too (and not to just perv over!). So I'll be a regular in here for the rest of the year.

FANTASTIC effort last year, my sincere congratulations. Good luck for this year with what is an extremely ambitious goal.
I'm away to get naked and stand on the scales.
Again well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Well today has been the worst. Started back with the diet yesterday. No chocolate treats, or biscuits, and cut out the diet Coke. About 6pm today I went into the loo, and left it again at 6.45. Not nice. Stomach cramps, feels like its doing somersaults, doesn't know what end is up. So I'm drinking nothing but water, cos I feel totally dehydrated, but its flushing my system clean as washing out all the crap thats in there, so theres all sorts of grumbles, rumbles and farts working their way through me right now. I reckon another 20 hours of this, and I'll be right on track. Happens every time I decide to go on a diet. You think I'd feckin learn.
Its the closest I'll ever get to coming off heroin. Must be what all the addicts feel like, going through detox/rehab. Amy Winehouse, how I feel for you right now. :D
Ooops, gotta rush again. :(
Hopefully my next update will be a little more normal and positive.

Well, I am in on this as well. As of 08/12/2007, I weighed 13st 8lbs with my height being 5ft 10ins. I want to get down to under 13st, maybe 12 1/2 stone and for some strange reason I started this on Monday 24th December 2007. Over Xmas and New Year I ate half what I would normally eat and since have not eaten the same portion sizes as before.
This was not a totally voluntary decision, it was just that my body said on the Monday, that it did not want to eat as much any more and I have listened to it.
As of today, 5 weeks later, I am down to 13st 2lbs. As well as not eating so much, this has been helped but working harder and more frequently at the gym.

This is exactly what I have been feeling for the last 3 weeks. Not so much stomach cramps but it is definitely more active. But then this is me coming off a 2 chocolate bars a day habit which I have been on for the last 15 years. I am now down to about 2 chocolate bars a week as a treat.
Like you, the one thing I have noticed is the need to drink more liquid. I think this is to suppress the hunger.

2007 Starting weight 79Kg
2007 Ending weight....85.7Kg!
What happened? Over December I put on a massive 5 kilos (11 pounds)!
Plan: STOP EATING SWEETS
This time last year, 85kg.
Today, 85kg, but i think that there has been some consistency alterations. Possible addition of 10kg of fat compensated on scales by loss of 5kg of muscle ...
Starting head-to-head forfeit-based competition with the missus next week. Basic rules:
- you must lose at least 1lb per week;
- if there is loser, then said loser must do all housework for that week.
I intend not to lose.

Ok, here's my sob story for the first two weeks.
Starting weight 20st.
1st week, off the shit food, chocolate, biscuits and diet coke. Very hard work. Result? 3lbs ON.
2nd week, continuation of the good work from the first week Result? No loss, no gain.
Weight at end of 2nd week. - 20st 3lbs.
Due to course closure, I went out today and bought a new pair of trainers, and I start back at the gym tomorrow.
Col - I don't have any faith in the gym. If you're going to exercise, just run. 10k several times per week, plus no shit food, you'll see a difference. Although I can hardly talk ...

 You've obviously never seen me "try" to run then Gord. Couldn't run the length of myself to be honest. I'll give the gym a go to get a bit of weight off, get the fitness levels up a bit, THEN maybe I'll try running, when I get fit enough to do so. I'm going to buy a few bits and pieces for the house that I can use for exercise as well. Stability ball, medicine ball, dumbbells, and exercise tubing. Then get the exercise bike back into shape again, once the garage is cleared, and I'll do the bulk of it at home. I've been paying membership at the gym for a while now, so I might as well try and get some of my moneys worth back.

Right....
i've decided to do something about my weight.
I'm overweight and according to the populist scaremongering that goes on regarding BMI then I'm getting close to being "morbidly obese" (a BMI over 30 and age over 40!!!). Not quite there yet on the BMI but certainly age isnt on my side.
At 13st 6lbs and 5' 8" my BMI is 28.6.
The target is by my 43rd birthday (Feb 26th) I will achieve a sub 12st body weight....11st 10 is the actual target but anything under 12st and i'll be quite happy.
The plan is to take some more regular vigorous excercise (sex, bit of light jogging, stuff like that) and eat less... smaller portions... more healthy stuff... but I'm not going to deny myself.
So heres the additional motivation.... for every pound I miss the 11st 10 target by - I will donate £20 to a charity of GORDS choice.
Regualr updates will be posted for you all to see.

Good on you Nick and a very commendable gesture.
Ok Tubs, yer on: http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/en/51.htm
I also need to get from 84kg to below 80. My BMI is about 27 i think. I'm currently 84.5kg. I need to lose 5kg which is about 10lb.
Forgive me for thinking in kg but I'm not as old as you (gonna be just 40 on Feb 11th). Let's say ... I'll pay £20 to the charity of your choice for every pound (=1/2 kg) that I'm off 79kg by 11/2/09. If you think this is skewed in my favour, I'm happy to adjust.
What I can tell you, by way of encouragement, is that a departing staff member has just delivered a large tin of Roses to the office and I'm heading that way now (just had macaroni and bacon for lunch too ;))
Bring it on, fatty!

i ve been doing this but forgot to update. Starting weigt 21stone 9 lbs. Didn't look that bad due to my height.
Currently in full on training for a triathlon in October and since starting training have lost just over 1 stone and 7 lbs in roughly a month. This is due to changing how and what i eat and also daily exercise.
I am not some one who can just train in a gym so booking in for a triathlon has given me something to aim for and a reason to get fit. It s often he best way to help in losing weight.

Great gesture from you both guys. Excellent work. I really should do something similar, but no matter how many times I've tried to diet I always get sidetracked. And I can't afford to lose THAT much money.
Just for the record though, I'm now getting regular checks by the practice nurse, so I have to try and lose something every month, if I don't I get a bollocking, but haven't had to get one yet. My lowest weight last year was 18st 10 from memory, and I got up to just over 20st again early this year. So far I've dropped to 'just' over the 19st mark, but recently my back has been giving me some gip, and I don't like the fact that I seem to have suffered some sypmtoms of sciatica, so I've decided that once I get the important golf out of the way in the coming weeks, then its back to the gym, back on the diet, and get losing weight again. I keep saying it, but I really have to do something about it.
by the way, i never sustained this ...

Updated my post....finger trouble caused me to state my target weight of 12st 10lb instead of the obviously correct 11st 10lbs!!!!!!!
I've started allready....
I bypassed the tempting Chicken Madras, poppadoms, naan, samosa and onion bahji and had a salad instead along with a healthy fruit juice instead of a tin of coke and a bowl of fresh fruit instead of Mississippi Mud Pie.

A leaf of spinnach for me and 10cc of mineral water
I've got my arse in gear this summer with losing some of the winter(/past 3 years of uni) insulation. At the start of summer i weighed in at 15 stone 4 pounds, and at a hight of 6 ft thats a little on the porky side.
So I cut out the booze for 3 weeks, got myself a stressful job (I'm a commis chef in a rediculously busy pub/resturant for the summer) and have mainly been living off diet coke and roll ups, which now has me weighing in at 13 stone 12 pounds.
Still a bit to go but I'm pretty chuffed with my progress
Martin.
I'm getting no exercise whatsoever because of this terrible weather!!!
But I have started to cut down on some foods that I tend to overeat: pasta, bread, spuds, breakfast cereals. I reckon my strategy for taking ND down to chinatown will be to go "semi atkins". I would consider bulemia but the whole John Prescott thing puts me off ...
I realise I've been a bit absent from here lately, but I'm not in golf-mode much these days because of the damn weather ... and work's a beatch ...

I'm starting to run again and currently doing two 6.5 mile runs a week. As I had been lazy the previous week so I did a 7.5 mile one last night which felt good and took about an hour.
I mix in with some gym ball stuff.
hopefully joining a gym soon

Admittedly Gord progress has been slow but I've managed to start cutting out the stops at the service station on my 130mile daily commute for Ginsters Spicy Beef Rolls, Pepperamis, bags of wine gums, smoked salmon and cream cheese sarnies etc. Havent seen the benefit yet but I'm sure its going to kick in soon!!!:D
Really need to up the excercise....need to get myself some decent trainers and get pounding the roads now its got dark.
Weve now got a "fat club" going in our department where one of the lads bought in a body fat meter and we all measured ourselves on it....we even got one of the three ladies in the office to give it a try as well. Word has spread and we now get folks visiting from other departments...the only rule is your score is publicised for all to see.
Our current tub of lard is Terry from the Intranet planning team, who came in at 44% Fat. Saggin a long way behind in second place is Jim from Hosting who by comparison is a lissome 38% fat. I came in at 31% fat...2nd worst in my department (IT Planning) where we have two garden rakes who measured 16% and 18% fat respectively.
Bottom line though is that most of us couod do with losing a bit of lard!!!!
My belt is pegged out to the last hole ...
I'm about to go downstairs and start preparing a 2.5kg roast loin of pork, to be followed by trifle (both from Nigella's "Feast" cookery book, btw). We have my brother in law and his family visiting, but nevertheless, I will doubtless eat and drink more than my fair share. I guess I just need to start saving money for Feb :D

Well my weight loss appears to be heading in the right direction, Slimming World v3.0. 9lbs off in 8 weeks. I little push before Christmas I hope to have made the stone lost mark before the inevitable chocs and party food (me and my little boy have birthdays just before and just after Christmas). Then I'll be well on the way to my goal of 2 stones before April and a little pressie to myself of a GoKart electric trolley.
OK Nick. I'm starting my preparations for the Feb showdown now. I ran 10k yesterday and did a 2 hour workout at the gym today. I wear a polar heart rate monitor so I know I burnt over a thousand calories yesterday and the same again today (ok so I went to the pub last night, but ... it's nearly Christmas).
I'm not much for dieting, so I'm just going to keep eating sensibly, cut down on dairy products, sugary snacks and fats, and totally beast myself in the gym and on the road.
I'm also partly motivated because I'm verging on having a blood pressure problem. I'm 155/105 which is well on the high side:
http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/medicine/blood-pressure.14.pdf
So I hope to get this back down again by losing a couple of stone.
Apparently 1kg of excess body fat is equivalent to around 7,000 calories. So I suppose if I burn 7,000 calories through exercise, I should lose 1kg of the lardy stuff per week, so long as I don't compensate by eating more.
We'll see ... :eekw:

Well on the high side indeed Gord. I'm on medication for mine, before which I was 175/115, now down to 130/85, which is a damn sight better than it was.

That is high Gord, I to am on medication and mine was 148/95 before I started on it
I suspect it's related to being overweight. I'm going to get back down to normal by Feb before I consider meds. The side effects don't look so great - I've a colleague who seems to need a slash every ten mins - it takes ages to travel anywhere with him in the car.
Apparently 16m adults in the have been diagnosed with hypertension!! That's a lot!

You didn't look particularly big when you were at Heaton Park.
i just need to lose a couple of stone. But I hope it will make a difference.

Must be on the same as me. Mine contain a mild diuretic, and I can pish like a racehorse while taking them. Not quite every 10 minutes mind, but can get pretty frustrating. :(

do you have to take them all the time / every day, or is it episodic?

Every day, but to be honest, I haven't touched them the past fortnight and haven't been pishing as much recently. Do need to go back on them though, but I find it hard to adjust to new things like taking meds etc.
I'm beasting myself in the gym every day now and starving.
Min cal burn in gym = 1000 cals per day
Breakfast: 1 glass fruit juice
Lunch: salad (leaves and tomatoes only)
Dinner: 1 piece protein and green veg or else just veg soup
No snacks. No sugar. No dairy.
Vits: 1000mg vit C soluble, plus 1 multivit tab after lunch.
I've been doing this since Saturday (5 days ago) and I weighed myself this morning: 82.1kg. It was 84.3 on Sunday.
Feeling good. I may change my username to Ketosis :D

Major Setback!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like I'm going to be shelling out a lot of money come the end of February.
Works medical department has had some new professional scales installed and these show my weight to be 11 pounds in excess of what the scales at home tell me I am (exactly 14st instead of the 13st 3lbs at home measured last night).
Going to be even more difficult now to hit the sub 12st mark!!!!!
Which scales did you weigh yourself to start with and how do they compare?
Surely you have to compare based on your true starting point so maybe you aren't as far behind as you thought.

Start of another year, another push to lose weight. Been saying to Gord for a while that I need to lose weight but with Xmas coming up I decicided to leave it until the new year. Weighed myself this morning to find that I am 11st 9lbs, which is extremely heavy for me. Approximately 1 stone over. The most crappy thing about it is that I have been cherry picking my exisiting clothes recently to get the ones that are the least uncomfortable.
Today I will join the local gym and do some form of exercise everyday for the next month, drasticaaly reduce alcohol intake to a little wine possibly at weekends and watch what I eat. I would like to lose 5lbs at least in the next month.
Will keep you informed.
GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE ELSE TRYING TO BECOME FITTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course you are right.
Starting point was 13st 6lbs on our bathroom scales. With a 11st 10lbs stretch(very!) objective against which I pledged to donate money for every pound I missed the 11st 10lbs target by. So a 24lb reduction was planned.
Last night I weighed in at 13st 3 on the same scales so 3pound less than my start.:(
This morning was 14st on the scales in Occupational Health which are probably more accurate.
So I'm either targetting 11st 10 on the home scales or 12st 7lbs on the work scales as a 24 pound reduction from my starting weight.
Me and another lad in my office have enlisted the help of a rather pretty blonde as a "personal trainer" in our efforts to lose weight. She's allready got us walking up the stairs to the 6th floor of our office 4 times a day and tomorrow lunchtime were off out running.

Good luck with that Ian, hope it goes well. I managed to only put 4 pounds of the 9 that I had lost between Heaton Park and Christmas back on, and for the amount of crap I've eaten in the last 2 wks I'm pretty pleased.

And he was the last person on Earth i expected to want to,or be able to.
Keep at it. Congrats and well done you old non-smoker you.......:)
Irons are the least you deserve, get a new bag while your at it. You deserve it ;)

Jeez, thats quite a bit. I reckon I'm not far off that at the moment, and desperately looking to quit asap. Good luck with it.
Also got on the scales this morning and was amazed that I hadn't put on any weight over Christmas, so today started yet another new regime. Walking at least an hour a day from now on, starting back at the gym again, as well as whatever golf I play for exercise, and a serious cutting back on the junk and diet Coke intake for me for starters.

set a date and stick to it col!
if i can quit anyone can!
I quit smoking in '96 by buying myself a big holiday with my cigarette money. Put it on visa and then paid it off. Couldn't spend the same money twice. I'd read about this technique in a book by that guy Carr. It doesn't work for everyone apparently, only if you have guilt thing about spending too much cash ....

You told me that story the last time we met last year mate. Since then I've bought about 3 sets of clubs, and maxxed out another credit card. Reckon thats me fooked for that method. :D
As an aside. Went to weight watchers this morning to enrol, got on the scales, and HOLY FECK!!!!!!!!! I nearly collapsed. The scales in our house are obviously very much in need of calibration. They weighed me at 20 stone dead, the scales this morning told me I was 22stone 5lbs. Creeping back up to my heaviest weight again. Been on a real downer ever since, but its given me the kick in the ass I need to get myself sorted again. Started off with an hour and a halfs brisk walk in the countryside this morning, and funny how the notion of chocolate and shit food has faded since getting on the scales. :(
You weren't using 20 stone scales were you Col?
I'll get my coat.

If only that were the reason Neil. These were the scales that at my heaviest, weighed me in at 24st 4lbs. God only knows what weight I actually was then. :(

Another 2.5m cross country completed at lunchtime
approx. 10mins quicker than Tuesday's effort (less snow today and we had a better idea of where we were going....and we actually ran faster!!!)
still not my idea of fun but it will be worth it in the end.
should also have one of these waiting for me at home....
