....could probably look it up but too lazy

Organising society day and morning is texas 4 balls - how do I calculate the allowance?

Assuming method is different for 3 balls can you include that as may get odd drop out

You usually get the following in Texas Scrambles

2 players 50% of total handicaps
3 players 25% of total handicaps
4 players 10% of total handicaps

or at least that is how they have worked at my club

3 balls

0.3xlowest handicap + 0.2xmedium handicap + 0.1xhigh handicap
OR
add the handicaps and divide by 6

4 balls
lowest handicap/6 + 2nd lowest handicap/8 + 3rd lowest handicap/12 + highest handicap/25
OR
add the handicaps and divide by 10

The 1st option for each is hardest to calculate but seems to work better.

I agree!

If its 4 balls then split the players into 4 categories based on handicaps and allocate one player from each category into each group. They won't work out exactly, but if you can get the total group handicaps to be within a few shots then no one should really get an obvious advantage.
