Ok putting you lot down if I get 20 probables thats fine...

I'll definitely be there unless:

1. My girlfriend says that I can't play
2. Work says that I can't play
3. Global warming has destroyed the Earth
4. You put me in the same group as You and TP (I hate being a gooseberry)

So I'd say I was a probable.

Seriously though, I wouldn't have thought getting 20 would be even slightly difficult.

I know that we can't do a scramble so how about playing alternate shots in the afternoon? Would definitely allow 18 to be finished and would be less tiring for the more elderly among us. Would also be evil....

About feckin' time! For genuinely mature, no disrespect, but the rest of you? You're all a bunch of geriatric twenty/thirty-somethings!

Is there any reason strokeplay is never on the menu?

Alternate shots could be counted as a scramble.

Its not a hilly course FFS...

already sorted out format....

Cos with wide ranging 'caps it rules out most of the field!

I don't want to analyse the whole handicapping system again, but are you saying Stableford is fairer than Strokeplay in this case?

TP.....a lot of places explicitly say that societies CANNOT play medal, must be stableford. For speed of play I assume where hanicaps of the players are unknown.

Yep,

Handicap is Stableford anyway (the Stableford Adjustment)

'Scratch' means only the low guys are really in it (what my reply was actually talking about).

'Strokeplay Gross minus Handicap' means that High cappers 'suffer' from the 1 or 2 blowouts they tend to have.

And any 'banditry' from the 'improvers' in the group (Chris, Ian for example) is probably countered by not having blowouts - just nett Doubles.

PM to discuss further. Don't want to threadjack - and too lazy to start another one.

People.....

Stableford is the best on these type of courses. When I played Hankley with work it was a case of if+when you drive into the heather, reload on the tee with a provisional then look for your ball. If you find it then happy days if not carry on with the provisional.

If you cant score pick up. Golfers with all abilities were in the heather and playing out the hole for a 9 is a waste of time and slows everyone down.

This course is on my 'must play' list, so would be keen.

But too far out to commit!

Is deposit required?

I'm sure there'd be no problem getting 20 to play there.

I'll make this simple for you to understand guys. Rob has to commit to booking this event this week. That means he'll be in for a minimum of 20x£97. He also has to pay a deposit of a couple of hundred quid this week out of his own funds - this he'll be recouping next year when the main thread kicks in. What he's trying to do is make sure there is sufficient commitment from the forum to ensure he's not going to be out of pocket come next Autumn!

Hope thats clearer.......

He's moving house - they'll never find im'

I'll be good for my share of the deposit if it falls through - is that enough, or do you need me to vouch for the £97?

Looking at the memberships section on the Hankley website, I see that maximum male handicap is 20, 29 for ladies.

Are you sure they'll let some of the rabble from Moongolfer on the course?:p

(BTW, I'm looking at no one in particular!)

They didnt ask for any certificates when I was there. In fact max handicap was 28 with our lot and the guy I played with must have been off 36(minimum). He lost at least 12 balls in the morning, including every shot in the book.....shanks, tops, fats, thinks, air shots the whole shabang.... I started laughing at one point and couldnt stop.....

He got 8 points with a 4 pointer on his card....

He went and bought another dozen balls for the afternoon 18 and promptly lost all those aswell....:D I ended up giving him balls I found in the heather while looking for his...

Fair do's to him though - he smiled all the way round...:)

He was funny though couldn't help it....

He smashed his drives everywhere and said they went 300yds - where did it go?

I said yes miles into the heather....

When you play the 18th look for the shed on the other side of the trees on the right - he hit the roof of it...:D
