I had been searching for quite some time for a 'compact' headed fairway wood as I don't get along with todays big headed offerings.
Eventually I traced the X-Tour fairways down at Edzell GC fitted with Callaways Uniflex steel shaft.
As soon as I set up over the club and looked down at address I knew I'd found the perfect fw for me, it has a beautiful, compact black head which sets up perfectly square and fills you with confidence that the ball is going exactly where it's pointed. The Uniflex steel shaft is surprisingly responsive and awesomely accurate, (it actually seems to make you swing the club well), and the Callaway Hex grip is a lovely tactile grip which allows you great feedback at impact.
I have the 15° model and the trajectory is medium to penetrating, the sound at impact is a welcome return to the beautiful, sweet sound of the original Steelheads, and forgivness is very good for such a small head.......even my worst swings manage to find the safety of the short grass.
This club has, more than any other single factor, contributed to my handicap tumbling this year and proudly reclaims the fairway wood crown back for Callaway, the Kings of Fairway Wood design.
I've got the plain old X Fairways and feel pretty much the same way about them as you do the X-Tours. The Steelhead Plus was an awesome fairway and I feel that the X's are just an updated model.

Nothing plain old about the way you use them!!! :D

I have the TM Burners which is probably the exact opposite as the clubs heads large, I tried the Mizuno F50's with a compact club head and just couldn't get any confidence in them, that goes for most of the other FW's I tried.
I wouldn't swap the TM for gold right now, the best FW purchase I've made, it just goes to show how much confidence plays its part in how we do with the clubs.

As always Greeny, it's horses for courses, why not post your own review of the Burners if they're so good?

Hey Rob:cool:
Im quite interested in this club :D
Can you let me know what distance is like?
I would love to have one and put a graffaloy blue shaft in it and a GP multi compound grip because that would look cool:cool:
Thanks

Hi Mikey,
distance is great, I use it a lot off the tee, which is something I didn't expect given it's compact-ness, I am probably getting somewhere in the region of 230 yards average of the tee, with maybe 10 or so less off the deck, depending on the strike.
The more I hit this club the more I like it, definately worth a demo.

Have you tried a Graff Blue before Mike?
If not i would seriously recommend trying a demo with it in it a find out which flex is suitable to you. If you get a Graff Blue too stiff you may as well kiss goodbye to the left hand side of the course (some Table lovers may see that as a goal  ).

I think he meant the X-hot version. It is a bigger headed model of the X.
