Anybody know any good wrist exercises? I sometimes squeeze a stress ball and use a strenght ball (similar to powerball) and I think I might start practising out of the rough. I will have a look on google but I just wondered if anyone knew any goof ones. Thanks.

Is it wrist or forearm exercises your after?
I believe Paul Casey used to spend a lot of time squeezing a squash ball. Other than that, you could use a light dumbbell(the one handed ones), say 2-5kg and do normal and reverse wrist curls(these are the same as bicep curls but you bend at the wrist and not the elbow). Do not do too many of these to start with even if you are finding it easy as that last think you want to do is long term damage to your wrist.
I can see this thread degenerating very quickly

Yeah, wrist curls are amazingy tough to do when you first look at it you think 'easy' but quickly change your mind as your forearm solidifies like quick drying cement.
Shrugs are a bit like that too, in my opinion. Easy to hurt yourself through naivete.

I'd say work on your overall arm and specifically forearm strength.

Thanks for that TP, at least you aren't as immature as most people seem to be.

you say you have a powerball?
i am really impressed with them, i had a bad break to my wrist a few years ago and used one of these to build up my strenth, take a look on the powerball website for some help as there are lots of different routines that are really good

I would do a few normal wrist curls
Wrist Curls (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/WristFlexors/DBWristCurl.html)
then a few reverse wrist curls
Reverse wrist curls (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/WristExtensors/DBReverseWristCurl.html)
Definately start off with a low amount of reps and a low weight or you could do some serious damage.
You can do a similar thing with a golf club, by simply holding it out infront of you in one hand and raising the club up towards the ceiling with just your wrist. The longer the club you use the harder it is to do so start off with a wedge.

Another good forearm excersise, is to take a small section of an old broom handle. Drill a hole and thread a piece of rope with a 5kg fee dumbell weight through it. Now rotate the broom handle up the rope and then let it slowly down.

That was the toughest (for me) of the exercises I used to do (30 odd years ago). Standing doing F-all but with forearm muscles screaming at me! Bench pressing 10 times that weight was easy in comparison.
Remember to unwind it rather than letting it just fall - and do it both directions too - palms/wrist facing down then palmes.wrist facing up!
Press ups are also excellent for forearms - which I believe is the area you want to exercise - and also has the benefit of exercising 'the core' at the same time.

I'm a big fan of pressups
3 x 20 (with a min in between each set).
But warm up before you do it as you can tweak your shoulder tendons (as i have done) and they take ages to heal. Doesn't really affect your golf luckily, but it means you can't do a throwing motion.
I haven't done any for a while, maybe i'll do some right now!! :D

I am amazed at how few people have stooped to cheap innuendo based suggestions!
I am proud of you.
Be careful of over exercising asthis may cause more problems - lack of feel for one - which could ruin your 'leisure' time...
sorry.... just had too, it was too good an opportunity!
