View Full Version : The first real MoonGolfer?

See Creo's thread about the first golf shot on the moon.
In recent years there has been a lot of controversy over whether the yanks actually went to the moon or the Arizona desert (and I can testify that sometimes 6 irons only go for a few yards in the Arizona desert).
I was always a believer, until I went to the National aeronautics and space museum in Washington DC. There they have (obviously unused) lunar landing modules, moon buggies and earth landing thingies. The thing is, they all look like Blue Peter mock ups of what space equipment would look like. I don't think I'd fancy going through the Van Allen belts (Sp?) with some alcan foil wrapped around my tent frame for protection.
These people were either the bravest people on/off earth, or some of the best actors imaginable. What does everybody else think?

Fantastic thread, unfortunately I don't have the answers, and I am too tired to write a huge opinion. I will tomorow though, a great thread deserve a response!

Knowing what the Americans are capable of i'd say it was a fake, just to beat the Ruskies. I've been to the Smithsonian and NASA in Florida and the stuff they actually used Apollo 13 etc looks properly engineered, whereas the stuff at the Smithsonian is the kinda thing i made with my dad when i was a kid for halloween!! :)
Wasn't there a huge gap from Neil Armstrong to the next guy?

The planned Japanese low orbit flight over the moon which would have passed over the American landing sites and proven once and for all whether they were there isn't really talked about any more either....

Seen all the Conspiracy Theorys and it's a dodgy issue, but then again, isn't everything to do with America dodgy? 9/11? Etc.

The moon landings happened. If you want to see the conspiracy debunked here's a great starting place (http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/tv/foxapollo.html). It's based on a widely seen show screened by Fox, and debunks all the so called 'evidence'.

But I've also seen a website (can't find it, the CIA must have hidden it) which specifically debunks the debunk program. I wonder which conspiracy holds the highest number of iterations of debunking?
This will probably only be fully answered when somebody else lands on the moon near to the original landing sites or orbits low enough to photograph them - even then why couldn't those be faked...
The internet has probably spawned a huge number of people whose only belief is that they don't believe anything...

Let me go find that website - unless the CIA have hidden :D

You could confirm the conspiracy theorists and close this thread.....

Hmm, well if you want to discuss it, I'm happy to clarify anything I have a pet hate of unsubstantiated claims.
Incidentally, we are going back to the moon.

Is this the first MoonGolfer outing?:)
(Right back at the start of this I said I was a believer, just couldn't believe how they got there in ships made of tin foil)

Oh don;t I've always dreamed of building my own rocket and flying to the moon - now I'm all grown up I just can't get my PhD mates to buy into it, and bloody Richard Branson's stolen all the thunder :(

I can vaguely remember some TV series in the 80s wher some guys had their own space agency based in a scrapyard, with a rocket built out of old Vauxhall Vectra wings. Can't remember if it was a British or American series, but if they could do it so could you.
