Yeah I've got it. I couldn't say what would or wouldn't be a surprise though.

How respected are these charts? I saw www.top100golfcourses.co.uk and the lists are completely different.

Well there's one near me offering discounted entry at 83rd in the website I linked, but it doesn't even feature in the HSBC listings.

If there's a course you're interested in I can check it tonight..?

course reviews can be very subjective. A lot of the criteria is actually based on the club / clubhouse/ how well the greenkeeping staff as presented. I think it is very ambiguous to call it a strictly call it a course review.

... some reviews talk about clubhouse ambience...
now Id take the clubhouse ambience of most of your local club's over the stuck up attitude of some of the clubs listed in the top100 and if they are completely inaccessible to the mere mortal they shouldnt be in the top 100.

Isn't elitism part and parcel of Golf? Surely accessability can't be a determining factor for quality...

Ive got it here beside me; I'm always suprised to see Tenby in these lists as I used to visit there quite frequently before I took up golf, and I didn't even know it had a golf course.

Tenby is a superb links golf course...but for comparison...why is it better than hayling island ??? its all a bit too subjective...

Im just using hayling as an example...

i could have said Princes.

and the other thing is comparing links and parkland against each other.

We are playing the PGA course in June 07 and I was wondering why is that course so much lower on the top 120, not to mention k no one really talks about it. The Ryder Cup is there in 2014 and that is the reason we are playing it. Is the Kings a better course. and if so, why dont they have the Ryder Cup there?

The Kings and Queens at Gleneagles are probably better courses for most players, but for the pros probably getting on the short side. Given their age and the area that they're in, there's little scope to lengthen these courses. Additionally, they can't really cope with the number of spectators that turn up for big tournaments these days.

The PGA seems to have been designed with spectators in mind - with almost a stadium feel on many of the holes. It's also a fair bit longer from the back tees. It's an enjoyable course to play, and all three courses are set amidst some pretty good Scottish scenery.
