And I for one welcome our new Moderator Overlords, I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Moongolfer, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

Was there an entry exam ?
I've read, but can't remember where, that moderation takes a high level of inteligence and talent. ;)

Erection problems?

Feeling inadequate?
Now we have the perfect solution. Apply to be a “Super Moderator”! Guarenteed hard on from the first post you edit in the morning to the last post you delete at night!
OK so you may not have a real life, but imagine all that POWER! Over at least a dozen people.
Its time to walk tall again young man, with an impressive bulge in your trousers.

Harry, the first three lines sound just like you.
Harry seems to miss the irony in his post. Posting as to the attention and power others are seeking from an internet forum by posting a cynical and whimsical one yourself is most amusing. And first thing in the morning too. Maybe it was your own search for 'morning glory' that led you to such a move.
Harry, you often make some great points but all this 'too kool for skool' thing can get a bit tedious;)
Personally I think it's a bit of overkill appointing three more moderators. Surely given the levels of traffic the existing two moderators as well as the site owner was sufficient? Isn't it like appointing more traffic wardens and then being surprised when the number of tickets goes up? More moderators will equal more moderating - which is a bad thing in my opinion. Anything really defamatory would be spotted by the regulars and reported in an instant surely?

I don't think that needs to be the case Frank. More moderators just means better coverage throughout the day. Some mods will be around at specific times, others at other times. A larger group of mods doesn't necessarily mean more moderation, I believe (having read the other threads) that it means more consistent moderation.
Okay but I think it's easy to get a bit carried away here. At the end of the day this is a golf forum. It's hardly a debating forum for hardline Israelis and Palestinians now is it ;) Sometimes I think we need to look out the window a bit more and take a view from the real world. One presumes regular members post in full accordance with the rules 99.9% of the time. Surely the typical 'offender' is a new poster intent on spamming or trolling? In which case the rest of the forum would quickly and easily spot it and report it.
MG is happy for the flogging of gear. We've done the Golf Magic thing too. Until my planned hijab debate next month I doubt there'll be much that's too contentious on here:cool:

Harry, although some find your posts amusing, it seems like you are here to poke fun at the moderating team and the membership. Please be careful with what you say as things may be taken out of context or taken too seriously.

Frank, What would you class as over moderating? I dont think there are many current problems going on. I do see your point about the number of moderators currently. For the membership it is a high number but memberships grow. We are here for the long run so getting used to the mod stuff takes time especially for me, so many new buttons to push. I am though still the same guy that i was before being given the post, just with a little responsability now. Im quite sure we are not going to get power hungry, if you feel we are we'll be happy to discuss it via pm, not in the main forums.
Ben
Good God I'm about to defend Harry.....
Lowho - in my humble opinion your response was very high handed. Harry is having a joke (and making himself look bad in the process) but he surely can't be contravening any 'rules' can he? He's hardly being offensive, just sledgehammer over the top sarcasm. You need to lighten up fella ;)

Wow, way to rebutt there, were you planning to lend credence to Harry's points or was that accidental?:D

Why would a debate about moderating be better via pm? In any democracy, it's crucial that authorities are held to account by the populace (crikey I'm sounding like a sixth form philosophy student!) and that the body's rules and guidelines are debated and understood. If there was an instance of 'over moderation' I'd want it debated in the open.

Personally as one of the first mods, i requested/supported the introduction of new mods...means i can enjoy posting more and there is less onus on me to moderate. Although so far there has been little to do.
I'm lucky in that i run my own business so can give of my time quite generously. (aside: i used to post far more on GM - but when you don't have a post counter, people dont notice!)
However Gord is a family man with a job and PP has other important committments i (and Gord) would rather see him focus on.
So by adding PH (works from home), Creo (self confessed golf bum) and Lowho (who's up at some ungodly hours) it means there is not only better coverage, more views and rationality, but most importantly :D i can get back to doing what i do best....posting on golf forums :) sorry running my business :) .
As for title 'super moderator', it is a default one that comes with the software. Its one i personally have requested to change, but at the same time moderators need to be known to all the members. On other forums its is not so clear who the mods are, and from experience i would rather it be known, whether i am one or not.
As far as i know, the new mods have had nothing to do in terms of moderation, and long may that continue :) Slackers :)
BUT on any succesful forum, i've posted on, its the members who spot most of the infractions and report them. And so far that's been the case here.
Enjoy :D
Ian (99% poster 1% mod) :D

Sometimes people percieve things in a different light. Im not getting high handed, I've seen a lot of HP posts, yes it seems the chap has been to the school of sarcasm. My apologies if you think im being heavy handed on this matter, still i do feel that toning down the sarcasm may be for the best. Its not an order, more a suggestion.

I dont think i made myself clear, If you have a problem with us. Take it up in private. To start with, if it is something that the membership should be aware of sure we'll discuss in the open.
