View Full Version : Advice needed! Lag & lag pressure?

Need some serious advice regarding lag pressure & lag.

Having decided a couple of weeks ago that I needed to try and understand lag and lag pressure, I started to tinker about with my swing. I started to work on eliminating my cupped left wrist at the top of my swing! Oh boy did it feel weird!! I was hitting all pulls, after adjusting my grip (weaker) they started to straighten out.

I noticed it felt a lot easier to swing down my shoulder plane, and simpler, as if I was now not having to possibly do a wrist manipulation into impact! Anyway the flat left wrist forced me into holding the club with a very light grip, then BINGO!!! I could feel lag pressure in my right hand at the base of my index finger. It was a real eye opener for me! I could feel it with all clubs but even stronger with the driver.

What I need to know is this:

Is it worth working on lag & lag pressure in order to fully ingrain it into my swing, which will probably take weeks/months! and go through all the crap playing, scoring etc.

All comments most welcome! Thanks

Depends if distance is an issue for you. If you hit the ball far enough then prolly best not to risk screwing the pooch. If you desperately need more distance then its worth working at lag.

Mabye not totally relevant, but i've seen that Garcia (Mr. Lag) has reduced the amount of lag he has this year, in order to improve consistency.

Creo, distance is the reason I revisited the lag issue to be honest! I played a low capper a while back, and got sick of seeing him hit an 9I in while I'm hitting a 5I.:(

Don't get me wrong I don't expect to gain masses of distance!

I'd just like to hear from someone that may have gone through the same thing?

You will have an amount of natural lag anyway if you video your swing it may not feel like it but there will be.

The only downside with trying to develop more lag is that you may block many right on bad days and also have a lot more spin. Do you sweep the ball or drive down hard at it?? The low capper proabably hit it further due to a more efficent and wider shoulder turn than yourself.

That my wise words over for the day........

Shankboy, I keep meaning to video my swing, it's been a few months since I did, and I do have some lag!

But in my normal swing I can't say I feel any lag pressure in my hands!:(
But when I do a well lagged swing(not on the course) which I've been messing about with I can feel the club load up, esp' the driver (longer shaft & graphite = easier to load!) surely it must be better to load the shaft?

Played with Spanky on Saturday and for a 16 hcp he has a very good swing. Nice and compact!
Not like mine, similar to an Octopus flapping about all over the place!

Georgiemac, you'll have me blushing next mate,:p

If that was an Octopus flapping about, it was a very well coordinated Octopus:)
