I thought It was time to review a few of my new clubs. Any questions feel free.

Background

Handicap: Scratch

Tempo: Smooth

AOA: Steep

Normal flight: High, stock shot is normally a fade

Bad shot: Pull or a block slice

Club specs

Cobra Speed Pro D

9.5*

Grafalloy prolaunch red s-flex

45"

D4 Swingweight

Tour Velvet plus 5 layers

Look: This club ooozzzeeesss class. A jet black club head with a smart cobra alignment aid. Some people may be distracted by the dips in the crown but I tend not to notice. At address this club looks smaller than 460cc due to the compact head shape and the deeper face. It will appeal to those who do not like the coconut on a broom stick sort of driver like the sumo2 or others. The face angle appears to be 1* open which as first stood out like a sore thumb to me but again its and aquired taste so to speak, I like it :)

Sound: The Pro speed is designed to suit a better golfer who desires solid feel and high end performance. I feel they hit the nail on the head with sound. Its quite muted on the course but does not go un noticed by other golfers on the green behind. I has a nice ring to it honestly. Again nothing deafening but solid.

Feel: This club rocks in the feel dept. A truely :p solid club, the ball feels like it spends a good amount of time on the face and you know when you have caught one flush.

Performance: The important stuff  This club again is suited to better golfers with a consistent strike pattern so TP Stay away  It does exactly what cobra will say it will do. Great performance. For me personally a high flight that spun a little too much but that is the shaft more than anything and my dodgy technique. This head is low spin, If you do not have the strength to spin the ball considerably or have a very steep angle of attack this club will hit worm burners all day long. The ease to work the ball is nice but I still like to hit the ball straight, nothing fancy unless it is really really needed. Off centre hits tend not to bee hugely forgiving unlike the ld F or other cobra drivers but again this club is designed for a consistant ball striker. I think a lot of people could benefit from a club like this. I think it would be those who are looking to lower their ball flight or spin.

Overall: This club is great in my opinion, Im going to tweak it a bit with a different shaft combo in the next couple of weeks or so then I think I'll have a winner to rival my old legendary Hs-9 aluminium Bat.

I'm loving my HS9!!

Nice review though. I am tempted to try this club; have you tried it with the stock shaft (VS Proto)? If so how did that play?

I love this club and am seriously considering getting one. It does look awesome and tends to stray more away from the cobra noise we are accustomed too!!

Good review lumpy you need and ozik and to crank it 3* open to take the left hand side out of play :) :) :)

That was hillarious, swing tips from a 10 handicapper on bsg

I tried it with the vs stiff and x flex, neither suited me but they were very good all round shafts. I want my original cracked hs-9 back :(

Trying to figure out what makes you like it.

Is it the dimples reminding you of something..?

Launch isnt a huge problem for me, its just the backspin thing. going to get my self a fitting with a chap called nice shot when I get paid at the end of the month. dont need some snake oil salesman to sell me an ozik, just going to someone i trust to get a better fit. I like the feel of the pl red but it just doesnt allow me to hi the ball anywhere. I've lost about 25 yards on the old hs9-x cracled head

LOwho,

Have you tried teeing it a little lower? I know I know i'm a sh*te player. but i found theat the 454 plays much better when tee'd 'into the wind' low

I have found the backspin to increase when teeing it lower

isn't that the guy who joined a few days ago? Seems like an interesting fella, ask him to introduce himself to the community when you see him

(before anyone comments on this statement, I know I hardly ever greet newcomers, but I do spot the guys who walk in without wiping their shoes on the doormat...)

Teeing it lower encourages a downward strike on the ball increasing backspin! Into a headwind this will correlate strongly to a high flight!

See! I have learned something!

I suppose it works for me as i have a long sweep rather than a steep angle of attack, and position the ball on my beeg toe.
