Thursday I will be playing Triple XL, Creosote and Peter Robertson at Camberley Heath golf course! My clubs are old...and my trolley broke down when I played Creo last Friday. Then my car broke down the next day ..so I`m not having alot of luck with my old golf gear etc at the moment!

Anyhow they think I need a serious golf equipment etc upgrade! So I suggested a 460cc driver. Then I mentioned that I saw one locally for £9.99 (new..a Dunlop) and they laughed ! But I reckon I can outdrive them on one of the par fives on Thursday..at Triple`s course!

They are all lower handicapped players than me! and they have a combined total of £700 worth of drivers (etimate). Question is, can a higher handicapped player, with a £9.99 driver outdrive them and have it finish on the fairway on at least one of the par fives? I reckon yes.......and ....I think they`re getting nervous......wish me luck!

C-B-C

P.S. I ain`t taking bets etc on this either...blurs the concentration !

1. CBC doesnt have a handicap but having played with him I estimate him around 8 or 9 handicap so he is not a "high handicap".

2. CBC has a snowball in hell's chance of outdriving me with his £9.99 piece of *&^% to my Titleist.

3. I would like to place a modest bet - say £100 even that he cant outdrive me once with his £9.99 driver, you on CBC? :)

..nope, I`m not going to bet on the challenge (it`ll distract me), but I will outdrive one of you three and keep it on the fairway....and it could be you Creo!:)

C-b-c I like your spirit.

If its anything like any of the donnay slammers, i'd get the stiffest shaft you can find!! It'll still be like bit of wet string :)

Your only hope is if the other lads duff one of the tee.....now that pressure alone should give you chance :)

CBC,

You are gonna be very nervous on every drive now.

Are the world champion long driver in disguise with your 60 inch club?!

CBC -

When you spank one past him, turn round and give him the bird, just like Creo's doing in his photo:p

CBC, I'll say yes, you will, just make sure you take it the range first. My mate bought an "El cheapo" from JJB for something like £15, and off we went to the range. He is/was a habitual slicer and every ball was so far right you woudn't believe it!
I was hitting my Ping pretty much down the middle, and I asked for a go of his new driver, put the same swing on it as on the Ping. and WOH - 40* straight right every time, put a 3/4 speed swing on it - down the middle!

So as misters3 said beware the shaft! you'll probably have to modify your swing speed to suit it!

GOOD LUCK!!!!! Hope you do it (probably because I'm not a gear snob!)

The thing is....... Triple, Creo and Peter have to ensure their drive(s) finish on the fairway... to my advantage a 200 yard drive on the fairway will beat a 270 yard drive that ends up 1 yard off the fairway!!!

Given that fact, they may end up `steering` their drives down the fairway, which`ll have an absolutely devastating effect on their swing!

CBC, The odds are heavily stacked in your favour to beat one of them, on one of the par 5 holes. After all it only takes one of them to miss a little and he will have won.

I certainly wouldn't be making any best of CBC losing this one. No if you altered it to say that you would beat at least one of them on each of the par 5 holes then thats a bet worth taking.

I hate to burst your bubble CBC, but officially my handicap is higher than the one Creo has estimated for you. My official handicap at CH is 10.2

Does this make any difference to your challenge? :)

Creo`s estimate is based on my home course, so overall he`s being generous! Playing a new course is going to set me back several shots unfortunately! ...despite that, I`m looking forward to playing C`Heath!:)

My old man bought one of said Dunlop drivers. not very nice.... VERY short. Mind you he was probably hitting one of the Donnay ones he bought at the same time. The coming together of two of the most technically unadvanced items in golf today is bound to bring about catastrophic results!!!! :D

Take the bet CBC - make it that the loser has to swop drivers with the winner.

Might be a pretty good investment - a £9.99 for £250...

That is if anybody will take the bet

So what is currently riding on the bet?? Pride and pride alone? Or something more tangible?

...unleashed the beast today....spent alot of time at the driving range! The £9.99 driver is on the prowl....tomorrow it`ll claim it`s prey, and it won`t be me ! :). I hit it very well...as only bad golfers know how to really use rubbish clubs...;)

I think I`ll have to put the Dunlop driver down the end of the garden overnight!...there is a strange unworldly hum coming from it, as if it has mystical/magical powers!

Nothing I can put my finger on as such......it`s just that there seems to be something `special`.....about this club! Quite unsettling....if you`re the person not using it !!!!

Today was a great day at Camberley Heath Golf Course....and a very nice course it is too! Two of our party of four were unable to play, so Triple XL and myself were left to battle it out on the course!

Unfortunately I played like a muppet, and Triple XL played like a magician, carding a 78 in the process:) ..whilst I couldn`t even break 90 :( . Given the good natured feel of our two-ball match, a competitve`Drive-Off` competition with the £9.99 driver just didn`t seem `right`today! However, I did use it a couple of times, and was pleasantly surprised as to how well it performed overall!

Triple XL is a very good golfer, and belongs to a very good club! I hope to return there one day to play somewhat better than I did ! I also briefly used Triple`s Ping irons....and I`ve decided I need a serious upgrade in the golf equipment department, and say goodbye to the pretty, but tricky blades I have been using in recent times...for perhaps too long! A great day Triple, and thanks for the invite!

All I can say about the driver challenge is, I hope CBC keeps missing the fairways - we will be in real trouble if he doesn't !!

Creo, even you will have to hit your gameday best drive ! :D

CBC - really enjoyed your company today, shame your game decided to have an off day, but I guess we all get days like you had today occasionally.
