Following on from the Royal Dornoch thread......
Does anyone know of any good course to join on a Country Membership?
My my course from November to end of Feb is off mats and due to location and soil retains quite a bit of water anyway. So i haven't played it since October.
Hence i was thinking of joining a course which would be playable all year round as a country member.
I'm sure others are in the same situation, hence the thread.
FWIW - my club does not offer country membership.
??????
Good idea for a national thread!
Saunton in Devon does it for £360 pa. (for those in the South , thats cheap!)

Dont know about country memberships, but the goal is to find a course thats built on sand or chalk sub-soil/strata which always drain well and are playable all year round.

The Players club do one -bit far from you, MrS3- Bristol. £100 + £20 green fee.
Better deal is the County card, BB7O union has 53 participating courses, Surrey 68, Essex 56 & so on. Cheaper green fees at loads of clubs, gotta to be worth a look, must remember to buy mine for 07 soon:) :)
The Players Club country membership is a good deal, but the area is clay!

Not a country membership but My club costs £135 plus £50 joining and the season ticket is £240 for 6 months(January-June or July to Decmber) or £380 for the year (non resident).
You can play any of the south Ayrshire courses for that and at least 6 of them are playable all year.
You could probably get a country membership cheaper but I don't know where.

That deal is about as good as you can get, IMO.
East Coasters can similar deals from East Lothian and Fife. (some smashing courses there too :) )

You'll probably get them to wave the joining fee.
I played there on Sunday is I wouldn't join it as a country member (even if I could) as the course is not sand base soil so not a true links IMO, every ball of the tee was a muck ball. Course was dry so that was good but the greens are a bit of a joke (again IMO) every one like an upturned plate.
I'd be looking at Goswick for the best deal - WINTER MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE - 1/11/06 TO 31/3/07 - from £100.00

You'll always be open to the "I'm a country member" joke...
Stevie's suggestion would have been an ideal solution if they offered an Oct-March season ticket. I wouldn't even have to worry about picking up from the fairway and dropping in the light rough.
One course I have seen with country membership on the Ayrshire coast is Skelmorlie (http://www.skelmorliegolf.co.uk/). £275 quid for a year.
Never played it, so I've got no idea whether this is good value or not

Leven (Thistle) - championship links course, playable all year round. The Thistle society country membership is probably around £150 now.

Burnham & Berrow link also have a 9 hole channel course, this is every bit as good as the championship course ( in mine and many others opinions ).
Never on temp tees
Always on full greens which remain among the finest in the land even in Winter, i`ve never known it to be closed since i`ve been playing golf.
End of october - End of April £200 all in, no restrictions ...... perfect! ( maybe not for you Ian, but for us Zummerzet folk it`s great;) )
