On some forums it is possible to give either good or bad reputation points to other users posts.
Is this aveilable to this forum and should we use it?

Bout the time when Bush said "Let's invade Iraq", and Blair said "OK, I'm in too"

that does come in a close second to this.

What are we supposed to mark people on? I can't see how we can equally be marked as all post are different and we all have different expertise. Me i know a lot about... well i'll think of something.

It's a community that needs the members in it to help each other. competition would only get in the way of that. Libertarian society with a bit of communism mixed in.

Fwiw I am against this. I have seen it used and subsequently abused on other forums with witch-hunts against people who have done nothing wrong except express an opinion. I am all for a thread being given a rating, but not at an individual level.

Where it may help is if you could just put feedback for the individual wrt their BST activities.

It's very useful to promote informative posts, better for combatting flamers and trolls but we don't have that problem yet....do we Mike? ;)

The volume of posts here makes it's use very limited IMO.

Like I give a f*ck!

p.s. other than GM I've never posted on an internet forum and have no intention of either. MG is unique to me in an ugly sister kind of way. The idea of rating posters is too incomprehensible to comment on. Big no no.

Harping on about Audi Sport.net (again) there is a thing there where you can give thanks to another member.
Its not a rating thing, just a count of thanks for good posts, or being helpful etc. Obviously it can be abused, but its not over there.
I like it for the fact that it does acknowledge quality posters who know what they are talking about.
There is no ability to leave negative feedback as such.

No, No No! If and when there are a 1000+ members on here regularly posting then there might be a need to filter through the trash but it's not remotely a problem now. Surely everyone that's spent 5 minutes on here knows the likes of Nick Davis and yours truly are bastions of a bygone age where intellect and wisdom reigned supreme. It's not rocket science! Anyway, you'll find most idiots are happy to self publicise

It is available, but struck me as an unattractive option ... too easy to misuse or abuse ...

Was that posted just for me?

Craig and Bruno are sitting in the wrong seats btw. And they've only given 40/40 3 times, I would tell you to who, but since nobody cares, I won't.

I think the idea is a joke. I'm a member of that other forum and was docked Rep. points because someone didn't like the way my paragraphs were posted on a thread...

I didn't realise reputation points worked like that.....crap idea if so.

What i was thinking of was a "Thanks" count. All good - no negatives. i.e if you someone helps you, you give them a "thanks". Not sure if its only the thread originator that can give it. But its the best indicator/counter i've seen.

Here is a link to the forum. (I'm a member by the same name there). You will see at the top of this thread (page 2) I apparently wasn't "Typing Regularly" and was docked 2 points.

My only experience of the 'Thanks' idea is on a site my wife frequents where they all seem to be thanking each other for every post. People get thanks for posting a smiley reply.

I don't really think there is a need for any of it. You just end up with elitism and groups forming. As things stand MG is a good solid forum where everyone stands equal. I like it the way it is and would not like to see any change that had the potential to destroy the cameraderie we have here.

Maybe that's why it works so well on the Audi forum

And what is this forum your wife frequents

As for your last sentence........are you sure you are on the same Moon as i am
