yet no one's ever complained that their Pings started rusting after 2 rounds... Buy TM for the looks, or buy Ping for life...

Or Sam, you could buy Mizuno and get looks and playability :)

Gotta agree with Sam, Ping irons are 100% made to last and I've never known anyone have any problems with them.
They are also made with one thing in mind - forgiveness. They may not have the feel or the sensual looks of a Mizuno or Titleist, but they are very, very good at what they try to do. I have a set of Zing 2s at the moment and I've never played with such a forgiving club.
In terms of looks, I'd equate Pings to Beetle cars. They may not be traditionally attractive, but there are those that love the unconventional looks and wouldn't change them for anything. I also think that the BeCu Eye 2s are one of the most attractive club heads of all time.

Have you seen the MX900s or MX19s? Are you telling me that they are an attractive looking set of irons???

No, but MP-60s, MP-67s, MP-32s, MP-30s, shall I go on? are all very nice looking clubs and some of the best playability wise around.

But you have to compare like with like! There's no point in comparing the i5s and G5s with the MP range, they're aimed at completely different golfers and aim to achieve completely different goals. It's a bit like saying the Aston Martin DB9 is more attractive than a Range Rover.
However, comparing them to the MX19 and 900s is a fair comparison, and they are similarly chunky and 'unattractive'.

I'll take playability over looks anyday. I5's don't look bad anyway?

I5's are ok, G5's and G2's are just ugly and fat
Stu, MX-17s are better looking than G5's and G2's.

Its the finish that I don't like on the g5s, its horrible.
Can I just ask.
Why do they need to be pretty?
And why do they need to be "finished" better or differently?
I tend to hit with my clubs, not try to take them out on a date.

I can understand, but surely them being attractive is a bonus.
I'm not fussed what they look like in the cavity or whatever, it's the address position, if they look ugly at address it just puts me.
i agree about it being a bonus, but surely it must be a really insignificant bonus, when selecting your ideal clubs.

that's a good point actually. Looking at the history of club making by OEMs, one thing Ping has constently been good at is making very playable clubs, and you've got to respect that. Consider their putters (Anser) and their irons (Eye and Zing), we're talking seminal design here

actually the only thing that worries me about Ping these days is them going down the marketing road and releasing new clubs every 6 months, like you-know-who, i.e. losing their focus on true improvement over the previous model. Something they have resisted so far but it's clear they are starting to feel the pressure

They still don't churn out as many clubs as Taylormade which is a good thing and seems to show that they spend more time on their new releases.
Quite like the quality of Ping, along with over underrated OEM brands such as Cleveland and Mizuno which nearly always seem to be overlooked by TM, Callaway, Nike and Titleist.

Ping have made some of the best irons of all time. The Eye 2's are still being used on tour, eg Tim Herron with his old Eye 2+.
Faldo has been using Eye 2 becu's on and off for the las 5 years and we know how much Lee Westwood still loves his Zings, (ugly though they may be!)
The Eye 2 beryllium Coppers are, imho, the best irons ever made. If you haven't hit them, you don't know what you're missing.
The Eye 2 becu lob wedge is quite simply still the most sought after sand wedge out there, often going for over 120 quid on E Bay It is still used by many tour players and Harrington (until he got his crazy spinning new Wilson) and Westwood bought them up at every opportunity.
What about the Eye 2 1 iron? This classic wind weapon still finds its way into tour pros bags when it's blowing a hoolie.
The ISI is great too, especially in nickel and/or copper. They sell for 400 quid+ !!!
The more recent S59 and S58 are awesome weapons, esp in the hands of someone like Cabrera.
There are many, many reasons why Ping irons continue to be used by great and not so great golfers across the world and if there's another iron which depreciates less, I'd like to know what it is.

I just struggle with the appearance of Pings, they always look like they aren't finished. And now they seem to have gone down the route of sticking coloured bits of plastic in the backs of them. Plus this colour code nonsense does my head in.
I still get tempted to give them a try, but if I get a set it would most likely be the BeCu Eye version.

Good call. I'm using a set of Eye 2+ becu's with JZ stiffs. You just visualise the shape of shot you want and they deliver- only on the practice ground of course!! Seriously though, they are incredibly workable and feel so sweet

Actually I bought a second hand set of eye-2's and the shaft corroded so much at the hozel that one head went flying down the fairway! But I guess that was the ping shaft and not the head which was ok when I retrieved it from the water. A second went shortly after and I switched to Ben Hogan Edge CFT's.
My MX17 are wonderful and I wouldn't change them for anything (well perhaps MP-60's if I could use them).

The thing that has put me off and so far stopped me getting a set is the 50.5* PW, and subsequent "high" (high for these days) lofts. Doubtless some time I will crack and stump up though.

The Eye 2+ pw is 48.5*. They can be tweaked and bent a little bit, though if Ping do it to becu's you need to sign a disclaimer form

Well, there you go then. I quite like the look of the Ping clubs. But then again I liked the original Fiat Multipla.
Why? Because of its quirkiness. Because it dared to batter against convention and because every time I see one it brings a smile to my face.
The same applied (applys?) to the Ping clubs. The old ISI driver was unlike any other but still a great club. They do seem to be going a little more conventional now but hopefully will maintain that tradition of form over function. We need companys like that.
I have the Hogan CFTs and unlike other peoples comments I don't find them particularly attractive but I didn't get them for that reason. I bought them because they worked well for me.
