After 5 days waiting for Mr Postie to bring me my new toy, I finally got the chance to take this new weapon out on the course today. Thankfully my usual track was closed so I didn't feel the need to put it into competition use from the off, although I could have after seeing the results. Onlinegolf.co.uk are currently selling these drivers for just under 200 quid, and seeing as how they were over twice that just a year ago, and are still classed as a current driver on Taylormade's website, I'd say that was a damn good bargain. I went for the 10.5* loft with a stiff Diamana shaft, and this comination is just awesome. The extra weight made it so much easier to feel where the club was in my swing. I haven't had a chance yet to play around with the settings, but each drive I hit this morning was every bit as long as my G2, but far more consistant. It gave me a nice, slight fade off the tee, and the result each time gave me the same ball flight, giving me the oportunity to just aim and not worry about the consequences of a pull, or unexpected draw etc. Even in the wind, the ball seemed to hold its line, and even when trying to punch one into the teeth of the wind keeping the ball low, it was easy to do, and the ball flight remained the same. So far, very impressed. Now if only I could turn my fade into a draw I'd be laughing. I'd recommend this club to anyone over the newer crop of Taylormade clubs, especially if you prefer a square clubface at address.
Colossus, I'm considering getting one of these as well in same loft but I'm not sure what flex to get.
Can I ask...
Did you try one out before buying?
Do you know what your driver swingspeed is?
What shaft and flex did you have in the G2? (I used to have a G2 with a ProLaunch Reg)
grateful for any info.
cheers,
eggs

Eggs,
Now you know my specs in the G2, I'll fill you in with the rest.
I bought without trying. I had a choice of 8.5, 9.5 or 10.5. My swing speed is between 105-115 mph, on any given swing. First swing of the day would be 105, ranging to 115 fully warmed up. I'd been hitting the G2 really well at times, but somewhat inconsistant recently. I used to tee the ball high, and just outside my lead foot, and used to hit it really high, but since lessons with the club, I'd been hitting it a lot lower, maybe too low. Its ok in windy conditions, keeps the ball down. I also wasn't completely convinced about the shaft, it sometimes felt like I was overloading it, leading to huge hooks.
I consulted several people, and came to the conclusion that, I needed extra loft now that I was hitting the ball better, so initially thought 9.5. Also the shaft in the R5 TP is a heavier shaft, which (in theory) should keep the ball slightly lower, and it plays (I thought) slightly stiffer than the Aldila. In reality, the Diamana 83s is a fair bit stiffer than the Aldila, but the whole club is really well weighted, and the 10.5 loft is just perfect.
All in all, it is a fantastic club, and I'd reccomend anyone to try one. For your info, onlinegolf.co.uk are currently selling them for £200. Not bad for a club which retailed around the 500 quid mark just over a year ago.

Consider it done. ;)
Col,
thanks for all that. Good stuff.
Was particularly interested in your swingspeed as mine's about 100mph and I was looking at getting one with a reg flex Diamana 83 so it sounds like it'll be worth a go for me.
Cheers,

I'd say the regular would be fine Eggs. I know most people say 100mph+ would be stiff, but the Diamana does play a fair bit stiffer than my Aldila, which in turn is slightly stiffer than a Grafolloy Prolaunch, which in turn would play stiffer than a stock Taylormade shaft. Let us know how you get on if you decide to buy one.

Always though that Grafalloy played stiffer than Aldila, guess it's personal viewpoints.

my personal findings are the nv green is somewhere between the graf blue and graf blue pro launch.......
the prolaunch is not near as stiff as the blue

My cousin has the Grofolloy Prolaunch in his G5, and it is not as stiff as the Aldila. In the same breath the Grafolloy blue is a fair bit stiffer than the Aldila.

Diamana play soft to flex its probably the 83 grams that make it seem stiffer. The Aldila feel more boardy than a diamana not neccesarily stiffer but boardy.
My flaccid shlong feels stiffer than a pro launch but then the blue feels like a pole and the comp nt somewhere in the middle. Its all personal feel really I dont touch Aldila shafts as i hate the feel others love it. Just demo demo demo!!!

I actually found it the other way round. To me the Diamana feels more boardy than the Aldila. The NV didn't feel boardy at all.
And I found the Pro launch stiffer than the Aldila.
