This might seem daft writing a mini review on an old or nearly an old set of bats.. but anyhow.. I found a set in a golf shop ( I don't do ebay very loooong story) bought them with TT R 300 shafts with the heads in good condition. I've heard the stories after my purchase that these Mizuno irons are very hard to hit and that I was mad (for those who know me they know Im already mad) well then, I can hit the 3 iron of the deck with no problem at all with a very nice flight and I can fly the ball on a nice flight with the rest of the set towards the green. Ball strike is soft even close to the toe of the club. END.

After three years of searching I now own a set of very hard to hit golf clubs that bring me great joy in hitting a golf ball. Time to shift my Ping s58's and make Col an offer for his very hard to hit Titty T stamp irons..OK Budda!!!

I am about to experience MP37s too.

Hit them (S300 +0.5 +3*) several years ago and they felt particularly nice - including the 2! My own clubs were MP30s at the time, and they felt 'softer' than those.

Not 'hard to hit' at all imo - and couldn't see the point in having them if they were (my ego isn't that big!).

To be honest, I've been watching a set on ebay, and have been tempted. But I'm not going to bother. Why the heck would I? I've enough irons to keep me going for a while anyway. Besides, Paul will be selling his soon, so I might buy his when he's finished with them.

I have Mp37s and my scores are creaping up.
I was off 9.8 when I got them and now up to 10.3.
Yes they are not too difficult to hit and they fly well but your spread is bigger.
This means you miss more greens.
It is not very noticable at first but I come off the course feeling I have played well and added up to find I shot high eighties.
My swing and ball striking have improved with them but not my scores.
Mine are going.

I'm with Marker on this one.
I can honestly say that my ability to hit a golf ball was never better than when I was using MP67's, but it had to be.
I'd come off the course feeling like I had played fantastic but had still shot 80.
Big problem for me was distance into greens. I could hit 2 balls into a green from the same spot and even though both swings and strikes felt good, I could have a 10 yard gap in the carry.

QuestionableCarrott is finding that out with my 681s. Since he had a brain fart and sold his Pings, he's been using my irons. I tend to hit everything up to 5 iron pretty much the same distance on identical swings. Only difference in distance would be hitting one slightly heavy or thin. On good solid strikes, the yardages are pretty much in the same area. Yesterday I hit my "new" 690cb 2 iron off the same tee 6 times, and literally only 3 yards seperated the spread left to right of centre, and even less from furthest to shortest.

Spot on SBL.
You think you have hit a good shot and it lands short so club up next time only to go way long.
The difference between a good shot and a 10 yards short is miniscule.
I have just bought these...

Sounds like a good concept and people who own them rave.
Review to follow.

Distance control is probably why my MP30's are going in the next month or two. Just as a few above have said, the difference between a 170 yd 6 iron (my max) and a 155yd 6 iron really is fairly small.

A playing partner has just invested in a set of Nike shovels and while they look fugly, I just couldn't believe the consistency and ease of use when I tried them. I borrowed his 4 iron on our 14th (183 yards) and thought 'oops, you've come up out of that a bit' and watched it fly high with a touch of fade to about 20 feet. The only issue with them is the short irons hit moon balls.

This makes me think a combo set is a good idea. I remember Nike doing the pro-combos, and the Titleist 735's were progressive, but I can't think of much else; they seem thin on the ground. I asked my pro about it today and he reckoned transition sets never caught on so the OEM's stopped pushing them - is this right?

I suspect if I can snare something like x20 tours or i506s second hand at a reasonable price that will be the way forward.

My scores have come down since I went to my MP33's.... 6.4 to 3.9 in 3 years.

mind you, I've had blades all my life, was a commited titleist man but the mizzies changed my mind and are the best I've had...

Mizuno will happily put together a combo set for you if you ask them. Something like MP52s or MP57s in the long irons and MP62s in the short irons. No extra cost either.

Failing that you can probably pick up a 2nd hand set of MX23s for less than £150 and simply use the long irons from those with the short irons from your MP30s. Same great forged feel but with masses of forgiveness.

Stu,

Can't see the point of that particular combo.

MP30s aren't that unforgiving and I know a guy who plays off 2 that has used MX23s since he was off 22!

There are some 'progressive' sets - Ben Hogan had/have a particularly gorgeous forged offering.

Club builders are defo the guys to see when trying to manufacture a conmbo set. TBs and 201/301 work in Miura at the silly money end; Snake Eyes 600 C/Bs work at the other.

I have come to the conclusion that combo sets aren't really the way to go - I think that a good set of blades set up correctly are very marginally harder to hit than game improvement cavity backs and the best soultion would be to bin the long irons 3 definitely and 4 most probably to be replaced by hybrids

Hi Fellow Rockgolfers

Just a small update with my 37's The dispersion hitting the six iron is better with the 37's for me. As said I had ping s58 with the AWT reg shaft and the dispersion was wider with the pings (re flightscope). Anyhow playing good golf with the old bats and currently my swing is under reconstruction by Gareth Benson the Lancashire golf coach. It is a nice feeling hitting a forged bladed golf club well. This coach who is Mizuno backed has me hitting the bladed 2,3,4 irons just a good as my ping hybrid so I think I will shift the hybrid and get an old fashioned 5 wood.

Col cannot afford to buy anymore sets of golf clubs after paying for my lessons.

I played my first round with the new clubs today.
My best with the Mp 37s was 86 (had them 4 months ish).
Today I shot 80 first time out..
That says it all.
Blades for sale here.:)
