I thought it may be useful to a number of members who might be new(ish) to the itramanet and message boards if we gave an explanation of some of the terminology we use on the forums and chat room.
I'll start off with some basics - feel free to add more I've forgoptten.
LOL - Laughs/laughed/laughing out loud
ROFL - Rolling on the floor laughing
LMAO - Laughing my [bottom] off
ROFLMAO - see above
GMTA - Great minds think alike (Bass turd, you beat me to it)
BRB - Be right back (chat)
WB - Welcome Back (chat)
K - OK (mainly chat)
YMMV - Your mileage may vary (You may beg to differ with my opinion. You'd be wrong, though)
IMO - In my opinion (Actually means "this is a statement of absolute fact")
IMHO - In my humble opinion (see above but even more absolute)
IIRC - If I recall correctly (I'm going to make this up)
NTTAWWT - Not that there's anything wrong with that (Seemingly excuses the bigotted statement that preceded this acronym)
My 2C - My 2 cents. (American for "My twopennerth") (This is the correct conclusion you've all been struggling to arrive at)
NSFW - Not safe for work (Conetent herein is interesting and probably involves nippleage)
SFW - Safe for work (Boring post, ignore)
FWIW - For what it's worth (This is the single most important post you're going to read on this thread)
BTT - Back to the top (You keep ignoring my really good post so I'm giving you another chance to read it and respond)
BTW - By the way (Threadjack coming up)

No! It shouldn't be encouraged. A few of them are useful (BTW, LMAO, IMO). Otherwise, write full sentences, with verbs and punctuation.
I agree with Sam - I don't do texting in this shrthnd eethr. (as you can see from my crap attempt there...)
LOL and such is OK, but let's keep the standards high...

I am indeed, well before the age. Uptight and pedantic as well, hence the nickname.

I'm a young 'un and use predictive text! I like to actually be able to read messages straight away, not have to translate them first! Hence I type in proper sentences, and hope others do the same.

I can't stand all this abbreviation (why is that such a long word?) nonsense for the sake of a few letters. I was also outraged a year or so ago when it was suggested that examiners don't penalise students for using text speak in exam answers "because it's part of society today". What a crock of poo! (My favourite saying currently!)

AGREED!
Just how much is a 'crock' anyway, a pot load? A large bathtub full perhaps? A Thimbleful even?
or is it akin to a pile?
these are the type of questions that keep me awake at night...

Apart from my golfing addiction I am also a sad hifi geek, these forums have "WAF" values for equipment......Wife Acceptance Factor, took me a while to get that one when first reading threads. If WAF is low it means that SWMBO will not like your massive new speakers
One thing that the two hobbies have in common is they both involve hiding credit card slips and keeping your ebay trading secret

This is really funny to a woman 'cos you men think we say 'yes' when we really mean 'no', etc.
What's all this then if not the same thing:laugh:
How about JMHO (Just My Humble Opinion) i.e. fail to take heed and perish

SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) is a necessary abbreviation in men's society today
