Ive been reading a few of the recent articles in Golf Monthly re the Instinctive Golf method of instruction and im intrigued by it to say the least.

Does anyone out there have any experience of this or know someone who has?
Im speaking as someone whos never had a lesson (and it shows), im always worried that it will get overtly technical which puts me off somewhat, so thought Id do some homework on this before spending my hard earned on lessons over the winter.

Problem is golf is not a natural game.
If you do what your body wants it's unlikely the results will be high standard.
Having said that i think it's easy to get bogged down with technical stuff.
I reckon get the basics first then progress to what feels instinctive...that way the basics should stay in place.

The instinctive golf guy is in Glasgow Cliche - Easy way for you to find out if he knows what he's talking about:)

I personally reckon there's something to it, BUT if you read every article there is about the golf swing and how the ball interacts withe the club, the club path, the length and direction of the grass etc. then it probably becomes instinctive to know what you should be doing. So maybe he's just teaching the same things as everybody else from a different angle. Putting it all into practice is the difficult bit.

i gotta be honest when my game goes to pot i find nowt better to cure it than walking up to ball and just hitting the damn thing

Thanks for the feedback and comments guys.

I totally agree re the need for sound fundamentals. I just liked the different slant the guy was puting on how as humans we pick things up.

Like I said my plan is to put some work into my game over the winter (been promising to do this for years) and Im trying to keep my options open re lessons that will suit my way of learning, the instinctive golf way is just an option at present which I dont know if I will follow it up.

I am currently studying at Elmwood College and have been advised that the pro at the local course (got college tie ins) is really good, and bases your lessons around your body shape etc, so that he isnt just teaching one method to all, rather the best way to get the most out of what youve got already, plus being a poor student, the discount Ill get on the lessons might be the major factor.

I'll keep you posted (if your interested) on my choice and how things go.

cheers CG
