Okay I'll kick this one off,

My Saturday round was cancelled due to poor organisation on my part, but I got some practice in on Sunday on the range and over nine holes.

Pleased to say my irons are my new, old, best friends again as I parred the two hardest holes on the course with ease, and a 6 iron. As a practice round the overall score doesn't mean much, but I got good contact on every shot for the first time in weeks and weeks.

Also, boomed a drive down the 350yd 8th leaving an easy gap wedge in to 6 feet :D

Shame I didn't get a chance at breaking 100 this weekend, but overall, left the course with a great feeling and 100 is already quaking in it's boots at the prospect of this coming weekend.

So, spill the beans guys....

had a good round on sunday morning, played to handicap (15) on the wandlebury course (par 72) but slightly spoilt by dropping 5 shots in the last 4 holes. Whole game was good and had 33 putts with no 3 putts.

The closest I got to 18 holes was changing Not-So-Longshot's nappies all weekend.

No. 3 definitely should have been declared GUR :confusedw: :eekw:

Played 9 on Sunday, terrible start with 1 point in 1st four holes but due to a solid partner found ourselves all square crossing road (to the 6th) and I finished 1 over for the last 4 holes including a par on the 8th (SI 1) for four points

Won pairs 1 up

Struggling to get used to the heavier swing weight of the MX19's

Girlfriend was away so got to play both saturday and sunday :D
Saturday at Silvermere, Sunday at Mill Hill GC. Each round was as poor as the other and I just about reached the 20 points marks (both scores in the 100's) , mostly because I'm struggling to get my irons going from the fairway. Too many swings thoughts these days. Things were going a bit better on the back nine yesterday, once I decided I'd be better off taking a simpler approach, i.e. focus on set up and rip it. Hopefully that will pay off in the next round on friday

This is exactly what sorted out my irons problem. I was actually thinking of daytime TV at one point in a bid to clear my head... :)

Played Sat and Sun, social rounds at the local place with mates.

Shot 74 and 73 (Par is 70). Didnt hit a single shot all weekend out of the middle of the clubface, and in truth played scuffy both days but never got in trouble.

Played a bounce game on saturday afternoon, was a bit disapointed to find that mat play from the fairway had been started.I'm not keen on using mats so opted for kicking it 4 paces off the fairway. Played really well, two over par for the front 9, got it back to level with birdies at 10 and 11 then wobbled with 4 bogies in the last 7 holes to finnish with a 74. I play off 10 so was well pleased with myself, only hit 7 GIR's but single putted 7 times.:D

Played Friday and was awful - but my pet theory that its one bad day then one good was proven once again when I somewhat reluctantly played Saturday and shot a nett 66 off my 14 h/cap. Funny old game as they say!

It's only a 68 par course though (sss 67) so I'ts not that big an achievement - just nice to be on the right side of my h/cap for a change!
Just missed out on breaking 80 though as that is my current goal!

Felt really up for it this sunday after doing chipping drills at ranges on saturday..

Creamed first tee shot which left me approx 100 yards to pin.. Thought nice and steady grip allignment posture stance hinge cock and go - and so it did left hand side of bunker fringe..

managed to parr the 2nd and so my round went on - good then bad then good..finished first nine on 54..

Back nine played much better..Seemed more focussed and came back in 45 - which meant played to my society h/c on back nine...

All in all happy with the day and improving nicely...

Boy do I know how you feel! In something like 40 games over the Spring and Summer I kept hitting 80, 81, 82, but always less than 85. On various Par 70 and 72 courses. Then in a major comp maybe six weeks ago I hit a 77 without stopping to count on my way (I was playing with someone that was flying and I just kept my eye on him) and then 79 the next week. Since then I've hit another 79 in my only competitive round out. It feels like such a weight has been lifted I now look to 80 as my comfort mark so I can attack early holes - whereas once I'd just be focusing on not screwing them up.

It'll come. Stick at it

Played new club and shot 35 points with few wild drives on friday.
Getting the hang of what club to take on each tee as to get me in prime position. 18 holes in 2 1/4 hrs......thats more like it...

Played Greensomes on Saturday(old club) and we won 5&3. Should have finished them off earlier but didnt..took over 4 hrs...

Glad to see you haven't mastered the Addington quite yet, 3puttwizard. Great time though!

Played on Sunday with Sam at Mill Hill and was a bit of a mixed bag. Was hitting my new driver really well, but really struggled with my irons, even my wedges! The putter was working pretty well, couple of 3 putts from long distance but also a couple of 6 footers holed and even a 15 footer. Overall I managed 29 points without even getting close to playing well.

I've also decided to implement the Dave Pelz 3x4 wedge system, but as I haven't practiced it much, I'm unsure of my distances with each club. But the early indications are good. :)

Played on Saturday morning, 1st time in 4 weeks, and for 1st 4 holes was horrendous. On sunday I remembered how to turn, and low and behold, I'm back.
They've hollow cored the greens though. (if you stare at the holes in the ground long enough, a picture appears...) Still putted well. didn't count, but won the cash with 11 skins out of 18. 2 birdies and round in roughly 74...

I did something i've never done before...I walked off the course with the hump after only three holes of the Medal yesterday!!!

The day hadnt started well...the missus awoke full of headache and cold and looked pretty damned rough. I told her that if she didnt want me to, I wouldnt play but she said she'd be all right and that i could go and play...at least those were the words...the sound of her voice however seemed to be saying something different!!

Anyway...given the excuse that i'm a thick bloke, I took the actual words as priority over the way they were spoken and headed off to play...but did feel a little guilty about doing so.

Anyway...I get to the club in plenty of time to allow me to hit thirty balls warm up on the range and have a quick bit of putting practise. However...one of my playing partners was late due to work commitments and we actually teed off 10 minutes late. I hate being late and equally detest rushing to try to make up the lost hole on the group ahead.

Consequently a 3 putt at the first for double bogey 7 followed by a three putt on the second for a double bogey 5 didnt put me in the best frame of mind. Was realy thinking about the fact that i should've stayed at home and wasnt concentrating at all on my game. When I played a totally "cant be bothered" type of chip from the fringe on the third and put it 6 foot past and three yards wide I stood with brain twirling...should I chuck it in or persevere and try to make something of the round.

Now I've been in this position many times before but have never ever succumbed to the "chuck it in" mentality...always preferring to tough it out. But not yesterday...with an indifferent swipe of my putter I knocked the ball off the green, utterred my apologies to my playing partners and stomped off back to my car.

Mike

Nick - it happens. I'm sure your playing partners understood. If that was me I wouldn't have cared two hoots about catching up with the group ahead mind!

Craigielaw with a couple of pals from another golf forum. Blew a hoolie all day, bags falling over, headcovers blown away, 5 pars thanks to a good short game, and a bowl of hot soup afterwards. Fantastic.

The course was in very good condition, especially the greens which were true and very fast for the time of year. We played off a few mats (which is to be expected) but other than that all was good.

I wasn't a huge fan of the layout of some of the holes, quite a few blind tee shots which are never too much fun when you've never played the course before! I also found the 5 minute walk to the first tee (which involved crossing under the A1!) rather strange, and it wouldn't be something that I'd want to do every Sunday before a medal.

Overall it was a good course with some picturesque holes, but the £37 green fee was on the high side for the quality of the course IMO.

Overall I'd rate it below Hendon, Finchley and Crews Hill.

Agreed. It's a good course but not exceptional in any way, whereas the 3 above all have a bit of a special feel to them.
A good test for me is whether I can remember every single hole easily after playing a course for the first time. Not the case unfortunately for Mill Hill as it is a bit featureless. Plus you can't escape the noise from the M1 and the A1.
Other than that I'd happily play a round there again but not for £37.

Played in a weekly Stableford on Saturday, 34 points....22 out with 1 blob, then a poxy 12 coming home:mad:

Sundays was a pairs Stableford comp. I managed 32 points, 20 out and 12 back, while my partner scored 30 points. I believe that 88 points won:eek: ( maybe some artistic scoring ? it does seem to require superhuman rounds to win anything at my club with scores of 44 - 48 points a regular occurence. Or maybe these scores are not out of the ordinary. )

I am normally much stronger on the back 9 than the front and would consider 14 points to be a half decent score, i would be confident of scoring 20+ points on the back nine every time i play and can`t understand the reversal in 9`s.

I guess i should be pleased with playing the front 9 well for two consecutive rounds as this is a rarity.

I played Walton hall on sunday and had a total mare.
The worst round of golf i have had since i started playing again.
Not sure what the cause was but the course was in diabolical condition and very busy.
Just could not get going....didn't even drive well.
In a word....SHYTE!!

Muddled my way round the front nine with 8 bogeys and lost a ball in the sun on the 4th. Didn't know which way it went-the only thing I knew was that it wasn't on the green :( So 18 points on the front nine then duffed 2 chips on the 10th culminating in triple bogey 6 :( My putting was horredous and on the only 2 occasions I put the ball on in GIR I 3 putted :(

Driving is pretty poor and I will need a lesson with a pro to figure it out as I'm sure its a pretty simple fault. Greens are in poor condition and playing off a few mats.

Will get out next sunday as I'm going to the Eng vs Argentina rugby game :D

I asked here about stableford points and general opinion was that 30 was good ,and above 40 is bandit territory.

If that is true, 88 points must scale to be the golfing equivalent of the Cuban Missile crisis...

TP. My opinion on stableford scores is that anything less than 32 is poor, 33-34 okay, 35 - 36, good (i.e. you've played to your handicap) and 37 - 40 very good. Anything above 41 should be a rarity.

In our last two week major I hit lifetime best rounds to shoot 41 and 42 points only to be beaten by an old fella off a hcp of 23 or something hitting his year's best 42 and 43 points for a 85 two week total. It does happen. I guess it depends how big the club comp is too. If you've a 100+ entering then statistically it's of course more likely you'll get a ridiculously high winning score. Those high scores 'tend' to come from Cat 4 players that are fast improving (in my experience). Not necessarily bandits  You'll be posting such scores pretty soon TP

well, looking at the post again Topscaff seems to be referring to the pair's score, but I have to admit it got me confused too. In that case yes it is possible, depending on the course and the handicap system (society handicaps can be a bit dodgy, less likely in a club)
