Does anyone else get Golf Toe?
It's inflammation or damage to the tendon connecting the top of the big toe to the top/front of the foot. For example, if you kneel down with your feet flat and lean back, the tension is very painful. I'm sure it stems from golf in some way ...

I've got it on both feet. Strangely worse on my left foot (I'm right-handed and therefore spin my right foot when I drive).

Or maybe it's from the running ...

Is it Golf Toe or 10k Toe?

What causes it? Is it just the trudging around? I don't think so because I've climbed plenty of Munroes etc and never had this before. Perhaps there is some torque on the front of the feet when you hit an iron off the fairway?

No idea Gord. Only ever experienced it on a golf course so am guessing it is around the twisting of the toes?!?!

If this is turning into an aches and pains club, can I mention my policeman's heel?? :)

Is it Golf Heel? If not, then no.

I enjoyed a terrific game this evening (thanks Chopper and Big Jim, btw) but now my left toe feels like the upper muscle/tendon is made of chewing gum that's been chewed too long. If I bent that toe down it'd probably break off. This is definitely Golf Toe!

But how come we don't hear more about it in the media? Surely it must be a big issue and the cause of much physio on the professional circuit? I'll bet they have specialist Toe Physios. Tiger Woods probably has his own!

I would suspect that it's a problem exacerbated by golf, rather than one caused by it - the only time that there's real stress on the toes is towards the end of the swing. One of my pals has gout which makes his toes feel bad enough - so playing golf is agony for him when it takes effect.

You could try using a trolley for a couple of rounds - maybe just that bit of extra weight on your toes when you're walking up the hills could be making the difference.

AND give up the running - if god had meant you to run 10km, he'd have made 10km an awful lot shorter....

I think they need to call it "some bugger is sticking a knife into my heel" !!! I had that and get the occasional twinge - stretching/strengthening the achilles tendon and hamstrings got rid of it 99% for me.

As for the toe, I have certainly never heard of it in golfers - shoes too tight, nails too long, have you tried sorbothane inserts or shoes that have a good arch support? For a right handed golfer maybe the right big toe, as I guess that may extend the tendons.

I had gout once, in the right big toe and they (women) will never convince me that childbirth is the most painful thing on this planet !
